When Davide Tardozzi left the Ducati WSBK team at the end of the 2009 season many expected that he, too, would at some point join WSBK organizer FG Sport. After all both WSBK honcho Paolo Ciabatti and series PR Man Julian Thomas are ex-Ducati Corse and now work for the Flammini brothers and company. Interestingly, Tardozzi won't be working in WSBK administration in 2010--instead he will be joining BMW's WSBK effort as the German squad's new Team Manager. This move will, of course, reunite Tardozzi with two of his former riders, Troy Corser and Ruben Xaus. While Corser and Tardozzi have had their share of heated conversations over the years, Xaus was a Tardozzi "special project" of sorts at Ducati Corse and he enjoyed a nurturing relationship with the former WSBK pioneer rider turned team manager.
By mid-2010 the BMW Group will introduce BMW Financial Services India as a 100 per cent subsidiary, which will be headquartered in Gurgaon, BMW India President Peter Kronschnabl told reporters at the 10th Auto Expo here today. The non-banking financial company would do wholesale and retail of car financing as well as provide insurance solution to BMW car owners, he said. The company also said it is planning to invest around $50 million in the NBFC arm in the next two years, Kronschnabl said, adding the company made an application to the Reserve Bank last month. We hope to get the regulatory approval in the next couple of months, Kronschnabl said. As far as insurance partner is concerned, he said Bajaj Allianz General Insurance would continue to remain the insurance partner. DELHI: German luxury car maker BMW on Thursday increased the prices of its various models in India by up to Rs 4.30 lakh. The company said under a revised price list for 2010, the base model of sedan 3 series petrol variant will be priced at Rs 27.3 lakh as against Rs 26.9 lakh last year, an increase of Rs 40,000. The top end variant of the sedan will now be available for Rs 33.4 lakh, an increase of Rs 50,000 from the last year. The petrol base version of the 5 series sedan from the company will now cost Rs 41.1 lakh, up Rs 60,000 from last year's price. The diesel variant of the model will come costlier by Rs 50,000 at Rs 37 lakh. The highest price hike was seen on the company's 6 series model. The BMW 6 Series 650i convertible will now be available at at Rs 89.8 lakh as against Rs 85.5 lakh, a hike of Rs 4.3 lakh. With news reports telling us that BMW was going to move forward with the 3-series GT, we all knew one thing. This is essentially the death of the BMW wagon, IF the GTs sell well. Although the GT can not be seen, as this mule is said to have only the mechanicals, Autocar has had an artist take care of a rendering for our viewing pleasure. What are your thoughts, Spies? Autocar reports: Underneath this disguised 3-series are the mechanicals of the forthcoming 3-series GT. BMW hopes the new model will broaden the appeal of the 3-series in the same way that a hatchback variant has widened the scope of the 5-series. However, the new car won t just be a smaller version of the Five GT. This time BMW is aiming to produce a fastback 3-series rather than the business express limo that is the Five GT. The 3-series GT will be more of a rival to Audi s A5 Sportback, which is halfway between a fastback A4 and a four-door A5. Not only would a GT variant help to make the 3-series more profitable...

Well, I believe the M1 is a car from long ago. With that in mind, I do not believe the brass at BMW are going to call it an M1. Not quite as there are plenty who expressed a lot of interest in a TRUE entry level that would start at a high 20's low 30's. That will never happen of course, so instead people will buy an older 3 series for 25K with 30-40,000 on the odo that works perfectly well from a used car dealer. BMW Group Canada rounded out 2009 with strong December sales, the company reported Friday. New cars sales were up 5% for December, with a total of 2,145 luxury cars driving off dealer lots for the BMW and MINI brands combined. Year-to-date BMW Canada sales are up 3% for both brands. BMW reported a 6% jump in December 2009 sales, selling 1,848 units. Canadian demand for MINIs slowed however, dropping off 1% compared to December 2008. The company also sold fewer motorcycles through its Motorrad brand during the holiday month. In the used car division, December was a record-breaking month. BMW pre-owned sales were up 47% over the same period one year earlier. Sales of used MINIs were also up significantly for the month. December sales figures from BMW come after a series of auto manufacturers monthly reports.
