BMW X1 Confirmed For US in 2011
(Thu 02 Jul 09) BMW has confirmed the UK pricing and specifications of the X1, its smallest SUV yet, which will go on sale here on October 24. On that date the range will consist of just three versions. The cheapest, at 24,205, is the sDrive20d SE, which has a 177bhp two-litre turbo diesel engine, a six-speed manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive and an Auto Start-Stop system which cuts out the engine when it isn't needed. Its top speed is limited to 127mph, the 0-62mph time is 8.1 seconds, combined fuel economy is 53.3mpg and CO2 emissions are 139g/km.

BMW believes a 10 per cent reduction in drag reduces fuel consumption by 2.5 per cent, and the 2011 M5 could get flaps that open and close on its body to alter air flow. The wheelbase is expected to be 10mm longer but despite the larger dimensions BMW wants the same weight as the current M5’s 1830 kg. BMW denies giving the car a four-door coupe shape but it has smooth, flowing roofline that extends far back along the car.

German automaker BMW Group said Tuesday that June U.S. sales declined 20.3 percent because of soft demand for its various models.

It eschews the upright, rugged look of traditional SUVs for a relatively low and rakish profile that carries elements of the German car maker’s latest design lineage. There’s a large kidney grille incorporated into an enormous front bumper and a deeply etched swage line drawn in the flanks.
Despite the X1 moniker, BMW’s new CUV would appear from these images to share very little with its entry-level stablemate, the BMW 1 Series. The grille is reminiscent of the new 7 Series or the 5 Series GT, while the headlights and tail lights appear to bear similarities to the X5 and 3 Series respectively.
The BMW X1 is the fourth model in BMW’s off-roader line-up, slotting in beneath the X6, X5 and X3. It is aimed at high-spec versions ofthe Ford Kuga and VW Tiguan.
